Edwards Set For Reserves Comeback

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

Midfielder Dave Edwards is set for his first football in just over three months by turning out for the reserves at Arsenal tonight.

Edwards is due to get back into action for the first time since undergoing an operation for an ankle damaged during the 1-0 win at Tottenham back in December.

The Welsh international has been back in training for ten days and views tonight's game in the Barclays Premier Reserve League South as the next rung on the ladder towards possible first team availability.

He said:  "It's my first competitive game in three months and I'm looking forward to getting back out there.

"I've felt good since returning to training and am treating this as the next stage of my recovery.

"Hopefully I'll come through o-k and then we'll take it from there."

Elsewhere tonight it's a generally young team although Danny Batth gets a runout to pick up some match practice to supplement his current loan with Colchester.

And fellow first year professional Sam Winnall is set for his first action since suffering a cruciate knee injury in a pre-season friendly with Kidderminster.

Arsenal play their reserve games at Barnet's Underhill ground and kick off tonight is 7pm.

TEAM: McCarey, Metcalf, Reckord, Batth, Dunleavy, Davis, Mendez-Laing, Rooney, Landell, Edwards, Winnall: SUBS: McCone, Harris, McAlinden, Parsonage, Gorman, Griffiths.
