Zubar Ready For Derby Dust-Up

Posted on: Tue 16 Mar 2010

Ronald Zubar is relishing the "special" atmosphere in store at Saturday's local derby with highflying Aston Villa.

And he believes Wolves must show the same battle and determination as at Burnley if they are to stand any chance of a second successive claret-and-blue success by upsetting their lofty Midlands neighbours.

"Villa is another difficult one but we've been doing well away from home," said the French defender.

"It is a special game because it is a derby and another tough one.

"When we played at home it was a very tough game and we managed to come away with a draw.

"Villa will be expected to win because they are at home and so there won't be any pressure on us.

"And after a draw against Stoke they will be wanting to beat us.

"We go to Villa Park and try and do the same things - stay strong on the pitch and stay in the game."

Zubar continues:  "At the moment Villa for me are a good team.

"They have just played in the Carling Cup final and are seventh in the table.

"But we have a good feeling after Burnley and will be ready to battle again for 90 or 95 minutes.

"We have to try and keep a clean sheet and take our chances when we create them."

Wolves will head into the Villa test with confidence boosted by Saturday's win, coming as it did on the back of some impressive performances in recent weeks.

And Zubar has revealed that even in victory at Turf Moor there was disappointment in leaking a goal which gave the Clarets hope in the closing stages.

"We were angry when Burnley scored because it was a disappointing goal to give away," he said.

"But everyone is working on the defensive side from the front players back to the defence and goalkeeper, chasing the ball and doing what they can.

"We need to keep it going and stay solid because we all want to keep playing like we have been doing for the last couple of months.

"It was a tough game at Burnley and a big game and everyone knew before that it was going to be a six-pointer for both of us.

"It was an important win because for the last couple of months we'd played very well and had created chances to score.

"But like the Chelsea game, Liverpool and Manchester United we were disappointed because we didn't put our chances away.

"We still had confidence but just weren't getting results.

"We knew we had to keep it going and keep training hard and make sure we picked up points.

"But we have to keep it going because we've got nine more big games to come."

Having initially found it difficult to adapt to the English game, Zubar has grown in confidence over the season, and despite a couple of niggling injuries has now racked up 17 appearances.

He has also been part of an unchanged Wolves side over the last five matches, and is certainly enjoying his football.

"I am happy here in England with how things are going," he said.

"My family are over here now, my English is getting better and I'm having a lot of help from my team-mates and the staff.

"At the start it was difficult for me because the leagues in England and France are so different.

"Here it's box-to-box but in France it's a lot more tactical.

"I'm enjoying it here a lot.

"I need to keep it going and help the team stay in the division for next season and for as long as possible.

"The fans have been great and hopefully they will keep getting behind us because we need all of their support."
