Iwelumo has spent a month on loan at Ashton Gate building up his match sharpness, scoring twice in seven appearances.

Boss Mick McCarthy has now decided to bring the striker back to add strength to the squad in readiness for the crucial nine games remaining between now and the end of the season.

"Chris has enjoyed his time at Bristol City playing games and scoring a couple of goals," said Mick.

"It's given him the chance to build his match sharpness up.

"He had the opportunity to stay there for longer and also go elsewhere but decided he wanted to come back and try and force his way into the team.

"Like all of the squad, he just wants to be involved and that's a really positive attitude to have."

Iwelumo will now join the rest of the team in battling for a place in the squad for Saturday's local derby at Aston Villa.
