Crucial Clash

Posted on: Wed 24 Feb 2010

After the setback against League leaders Chelsea last weekend, Wolves now turn their attentions to the crucial relegation clash with Bolton on Saturday.

Defeat would see the Lancashire club leapfrog Wolves in the Premier League table whereas a win for Mick McCarthy's men would result in them moving four points clear of their rivals.

The boss said: "I don't think I need to overstress the importance of the game. And that's for both parties.

"I think with just three points separating six teams, they will be the six teams who will be involved, along with Portsmouth.

"I don't think West Ham will be involved because they've got too much quality, while Stoke and Blackburn are out of it as well.

"I think it's from Sunderland, Burnley, Wolves, Bolton, Portsmouth, Hull and Wigan - those seven.

"We've given ourselves a good chance with the position we're in but I always felt we would given the squad we've got.

"I know we've come up from the Championship and a lot of our lads who helped us do that came from lower leagues.

"But they've all been brilliant, the spirit we have helps and we're also playing well.

"We're managing to play at this level now - it might be towards the bottom end of the level but we're playing at it.

"I think it will be out of those seven teams and if that does prove to be the case, I fancy us to finish above three of them."

Mick also believes that it is going to remain tight and tense in the relegation zone right up until the final games.

He added: "I think it's going to be like this until the end of the season unless any of us can pull a couple of wins from somewhere which is always difficult.

"And we've all got to play each other.

"Burnley play Portsmouth at the weekend, so whatever happens - a point each or three for one - then somebody is going to get something there.

"It's bizarre that we might be supporting Portsmouth, as daft as it sounds, but it's one of those jobs!

"We've got most of them to play haven't we? Bolton, Burnley, Portsmouth, West Ham and Blackburn although, as I've mentioned, I don't think the last two will be involved."
