Edwards Hoping

Posted on: Mon 15 Feb 2010

Dave Edwards is hoping for the go-ahead to step up his recovery when he visits a specialist this week.

The Wolves midfielder, absent since undergoing surgery for an ankle damaged in the win at Tottenham in December, had been back in full training at the end of last month only to suffer a setback.

He is now due for a return visit to the specialist, and is hoping for good news to try and close in on a possible return.

"I got back into full training for three days and it felt really good," says Edwards.

"It was five weeks after the operation and things were looking good but it's only when you get back into training you find out it's not quite right.

"Nothing went again or anything like that, it just didn't feel right.

"So I came back out of training and that's where I'm at.

"I'm going to see the specialist again this week to see what the situation is and once we've had his advice hopefully I can crack on from there.

"I've been quite lucky so far not to have any bad injuries in my career but this is the worst one so far.

"But it has started to get better the last week or so and so we're hoping for good news from the specialist.

"If he gives me the o-k I can crack on with my rehab and see how it goes.

"With any luck I won't be out for much longer.

"There are still a lot of games left and obviously they are all going to be important as well.

"It will be nice to get back into the frame and hopefully get fit first and foremost.

"Then it will be a case of trying to give the gaffer a selection headache when I am fit."

Like pretty much every footballer, Edwards admits it's hugely difficult to be sat on the sidelines looking on as his team-mates aim to do the business out on the pitch.

But at the same time he can still take heart from watching the team complete a double over Tottenham to which he contributed having performed well at White Hart Lane.

"It is frustrating and horrible watching the games especially when the lads haven't been able to get a result," he added.

"But the Tottenham game was brilliant, a win like that lifts the entire club including all the injured lads.

"The performance was absolutely fantastic, the team played with so much passion and that's what we're going to have to do to win games."

The only other consolation of being on the sidelines is perhaps having company from the likes of Michael Kightly and Andy Keogh.

The trio, all of whom would be challenging for the front right role in the current 4-3-3 formation, are trying to drive each other on and back towards fitness.

Edwards added:  "The three of us try and keep each other going.

"We all have good days and bad days and it's good that when someone's head is down someone else will pull them along.

"All three of us are good friends and while it's not nice to be injured it helps all of us to have that support."
