Doyle Won't Get Blues From Blues

Posted on: Mon 08 Feb 2010

Kevin Doyle admits it will be hard not to dwell on the late heartache at the hands of local rivals Birmingham - but that Wednesday's visit of Tottenham at least offers an immediate chance to get it out of their system.

Doyle's predatory sixth goal of the season just before half time ultimately proved nothing more than a statistic  as another Kevin - Phillips - pounced twice in the last ten minutes at St Andrew's yesterday.

It was a blow which was undeserved given the manner of Wolves' performance, but their record signing and top scorer insists there's no point wallowing in self pity with such another crucial game just over the horizon.

"We had a bad start for ten minutes but came into it for the rest of the first half and got in front," says Doyle.

"We should have held onto the lead, we know that.

"We got ahead away from home and should have locked it up.

"It's hard not to dwell on things like that.

"Three points are so valuable, so important, and it would have leapfrogged us above so many teams.

"But Wednesday and Tottenham is another game and a chance to get us out of the bottom three.

"It's good to have a game in two days time because I wouldn't like to be stewing on this for too long.

"We have beaten Spurs already and are at home and have the chance to redeem ourselves after yesterday's disappointment."

And while the weekend's results have seen Wolves drop back into the bottom three, Doyle is confident that won't have any psychological effect on the squad.

"We've got out of it already this season so we are used to it," he said.

"And we know one win will do it.

"We have played alright in games and could have nicked the game against Liverpool when we had a similar sort of performance.

"Hull's result was unexpected against Manchester City but we get unexpected results as well.

"Hopefully we can do a similar thing against Tottenham at home but we know it is going to be tit for tat for the rest of the season."
