Ronald Zubar is delighted to have finally posted a happy cup memory after suffering two bouts of disappointment in knockout competitions in France.
Zubar's stunning control and volley at Molineux on Saturday earned Wolves a late equaliser and therefore a replay at Crystal Palace on Tuesday week.
Back in France he was on the losing side as Caen were beaten by Strasbourg in the 2005 League Cup final before missing a sudden death penalty in a shootout as Marseille lost the French Cup against Sochaux two years later.
Incredibly his wonder-strike against Palace doesn't count as the best goal of his career, the man himself favouring another long-range effort for France-under-21s against Israel in 2005.
"It's not my job to score goals because I am in there to defend," he said.
"But when the possibility to score is there I take it.
"I had the chance in the first half with no luck but for the second chance it was a goal.
"I'm happy for the fans, my family and everybody.
"My wife and my daughter were at home but a friend was here to see it.
"We conceded an early goal but we showed a good reaction to keep going. We made good chances and the gaffer told us at half-time to stay in the game.
"Best goal I've ever scored? No! I scored a great goal for the national team against Israel. But I prefer this goal because it was an important one and kept us in a big competition."
Zubar, who also had a major hand in David Jones's first goal as well, is now targeting a place in the team for tomorrow's Barclays Premier League clash with Liverpool.
"Hopefully it will be enough to keep me in the team," he added.
"Liverpool is a massive game, I'm working hard to try and be picked for it.
"The gaffer makes the decision and you have to respect it but I'm happy with the way I played on Saturday.
"It's a good time to play Liverpool. They are not having a brilliant season and it's important to play them at this moment in time."
