Edwards Targets January Return

Posted on: Wed 30 Dec 2009

Dave Edwards is targeting a January return following a recent operation as the trio of Wolves players to have suffered ankle injuries bid for a Happy New Year.

Dave followed Michael Kightly and Andy Keogh onto the operating table after picking up his ankle injury at Tottenham which brought an end to a long run in the Wolves team.

Dave and Michael's problem wasn't quite as serious as Andy's, and thus the two are set to return quicker than the Irish striker as boss Mick McCarthy eyes a triple boost for the second half of the season.

"I had the surgery a couple of weeks ago and it's all coming along well as far as I'm aware," said Dave.

"It was obviously disappointing to get injured especially over the Christmas period when there were some good games.

"But there's nothing I can do about it - it was just one of those freak accidents.

"I was just trying to go with Assou-Ekotto as he turned to go onto his left foot but my right foot just gave up underneath me.

"Looking back I'm lucky that it wasn't a lot worse, and if there's a positive at least it wasn't my knee which would have caused far more problems.

"I managed to hobble back to the touchline for the last few minutes.

"I could hear some cheering from the dressing rooms so got the doc to get me some crutches so I could watch the rest of the game.

"It came at a particularly bad time because I'd had a run in the team for maybe 10 or 11 games which was great.

"It's always disappointing to be injured but it did come at a bad time for me personally."

When he does return to fitness, possibly before the end of January, it could be just one part of a trilogy which will certainly boost Wolves' survival hopes over the remainder of the campaign.

Kights is also hoping for a similar sort of recovery time with Andy aiming for mid to late February.

"Myself and Kights have had exactly the same operation which is strange," added Dave.

"The physio has said he's only seen one in his previous time in the game but has now seen four in the last couple of months.

"It's not ideal that they've all come at once and it's just a freakish thing but hopefully I won't be too long out.

"If all goes according to plan there's a chance it could be before the end of January.

"It would be nice to be available again and maybe the three of us (Keogh as well) could come back and refresh things a little bit if needed.

"But I've seen how hard it was to get in the team before so I'm under no illusions having come out injured about getting back in again.

"I'm looking forward to getting back towards fitness and have started a bit of cardio vascular work now.

"Hopefully I'll then come back stronger when I return."
