Dave's Disappointment

Posted on: Wed 18 Nov 2009

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has expressed disappointment that Chelsea star Frank Lampard is expecting to miss Saturday's showdown at Stamford Bridge - because he wants to pit himself against the world's best.

Dave, fresh from his third international goal for Wales at the weekend, admits he is a regular observer of the Chelsea man's game in a bid to watch, learn and improve his own.

Lampard returned home early from England duty at the end of last week with Chelsea indicating he could be sidelined for three weeks with a thigh injury which would therefore rule him out of Saturday's game.

"They've got such a great squad that it will be another top player coming in," says Dave.

"Personally I want to play against the top players and would have liked to test myself against Frank Lampard.

"He's a player I've always admired - him and Steven Gerrard are the best two British players at getting in the box and scoring goals.

"Infact Lampard is probably the best in the world at arriving late from midfield and scoring goals.

"I do watch a lot of his play and see how he makes his runs because he always seems to come in during the second phase for the knockdowns and does it ever so well.

"It will be a disappointment for them to miss him on Saturday but they've got so many great players that they can bring someone else in who is probably an international as well."

Whoever is out injured at the weekend, it will remain a vastly talented and experienced Chelsea team up against Wolves.

But Dave insists the Molineux Men can make the most of their underdog status and can't afford to act like rabbits in the headlights against the in-form table-toppers.

"It's another good game for us and will be great to play at Stamford Bridge," he added.

"I think they've got a few injuries but at the same time they've got so much quality in their squad that it will still be extremely difficult.

"No one will expect us to get a win or indeed even a point so there's no pressure on us as we go there and try and produce an upset.

"There's no point being in this league if we don't go there thinking we can get a result.

"We all wanted promotion to this league for games like these and worked extremely hard to get here.

"We don't want to just lie down and be beaten easily and also have to try to be attack-minded and catch them out if possible.

"At the same time we've got to be solid and cut out the mistakes we've been making and if we do that then hopefully we can cause them problems."
