Carry on attacking - that's the way George Elokobi believes Wolves will be best served in the Barclays Premier League in keeping with the strategy of manager Mick McCarthy.

The boss revealed in the wake of Saturday's 5-2 defeat at Sunderland that he asked the players afterwards if he should have tried to shore things up after Wolves hit back to level at 2-2 in the second half.

The answer was a resounding 'no', music to the ears of a manager who believes in playing attacking football to try and pick up results.

And George believes playing to those strengths is the most likely way of Wolves registering the level of wins needed to establish themselves amid the fierce challenge of the top flight.

"It was never a 5-2 game but that's football and that's the score that will be remembered.

"It was hard to take because we did put in such a good performance on the day.

"We were very positive in the game and didn't want to sit back and when we got back to 2-2 we wanted to try and go on and win the game.

"That's what we set out to do and what we tried to do but then they put away those chances at the end.

"We go into games to try and win, not to sit back and defend.

"We are always positive in aiming to pick up three points and that's what we'll do throughout the season.

"Attacking is the team's strength and we've got to do that while also keeping things tight especially in the first 20 minutes of matches.

"The team is full of energy and everyone likes to be positive and when we attack we should be able to give most teams in this division some problems.

"We have to play our game, and be positive about what we do out on the pitch."

That all starts once again when Portsmouth are the visitors on Saturday afternoon.

Pompey may be without a point so far this season, but George knows Wolves  will have to be at their very best to emerge with a victory from what should be another lively Molineux atmosphere.

"Portsmouth are like us, they will be looking for the win," the defender explains.

"So it should be an exciting game.

"Hopefully if we keep on playing the way we have been it is us that come away with the points.

"We just have to move on from Sunderland but take the performance into the Portsmouth game.

"The fans will be important as they always are.

"They were great against Fulham and great again at Sunderland when they kept with us even when we went 2-0 down.

"We need that support and we are continuing to give our best out there doing everything we can for ourselves and for the club."
