Collins To Join Preston

Posted on: Tue 01 Sep 2009

Wolves defender Neill Collins has joined leading Championship side Preston on loan until January, with a view to a permanent move.

The Scotland B international, who turns 26 tomorrow, completed the move to Deepdale this afternoon.

The initial loan runs through until January 4, and will see the defender link up again with former Molineux team-mate Stephen Elliott.

Neill joined Wolves on loan from Sunderland in November 2006 before the deal was made permanent in January, 2007.

Having previously worked with boss Mick McCarthy, he won a regular spot in the team over the second half of his first season as Wolves defied all the expectations to reach the Championship play-offs.

Since then he has operated in all positions across the back four during his time at Wolves as well as being among the goals, notching a total of 10 in his 97 appearances.

He popped up with a crucial goal to win the game at Doncaster last season, and made a total of 23 appearances to win a Championship medal.

Neill's only first team appearance of the current season came in the Carling Cup tie with Swindon last Tuesday, when he emphatically slammed home what turned out to be the winning penalty in the 6-5 spot kick success.

As expected, Wolves didn't add any new signings on deadline day to the nine already snapped up this summer, having made their final two additions in Segundo Castillo and Stefan Maierhofer yesterday.
