Wolves have tonight made their second signing of the day - and ninth of the summer - by landing Austrian international striker Stefan Maierhofer from Rapid Vienna.

The prolific striker, who notched 23 goals in 37 games for Vienna last season, has completed a move to Molineux on an undisclosed fee and put pen to paper on a three-year deal with a further year's option in Wolves' favour.

Stefan, who scored in his final appearance for Vienna in Saturday's local derby with FK Austria Vienna, will now join up with Austria for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers with the Faroe Islands and Romania before starting life with Wolves ahead of the Barclays Premier League trip to Blackburn.

"We are delighted to bring Stefan in as our ninth new arrival this summer," said Wolves CEO Jez Moxey.

"He is a player who has been a regular goalscorer for Rapid Vienna in recent seasons and helped the club qualify for the Europa League by contributing to their win against Aston Villa last week.

"Stefan had been targeted by Mick to add competition for places in the striking department, and once again we are pleased that the Board and Chairman Steve Morgan have been able to support the manager.

"There are still 24 hours remaining until the transfer window closes, and it may well be that there is more activity in the outgoing department tomorrow."

Starting his career in Austria with SV Langenrohr, he joined Bayern Munich's reserve team in 2005 and signed a professional contract with the German giants a year later.

He was the top scorer for Bayern's reserves in each of his two seasons with the club - notching 21 in 42 appearances - and made two appearances as a substitute for the first team.

After spells with German second division sides TuS Koblenz and SpVgg Greuther Fürth, he first joined Rapid Vienna on loan in January, 2008, and helped the club to the Austrian league title scoring seven goals in 11 games.

He then joined the club on a three year contract and his goalscoring form with Vienna earned a first international call-up.

Stefan, aged 27, follows the arrival of Segundo Castillo on a season-long loan this morning and Nenad Milijaš, Marcus Hahnemann, Kevin Doyle, Andrew Surman, Greg Halford, Ronald Zubar and Michael Mancienne (loan) already this summer.

* WOW will bring reaction from Stefan and Mick McCarthy to the deal tomorrow.
