Repeat Performance?

Posted on: Mon 17 Aug 2009

Wolves new boy Nenad Milijaš believes a repeat of the performance level of Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener with West Ham - coupled with taking their chances - will see the Molineux men establish themselves in the Premier League.

The Serbian midfielder, one of many positives from the big kick-off despite Wolves' 2-0 defeat, was pleased with both his own performance and that of the team although knowing they need to be more clinical when heading to Wigan tomorrow night.

"We produced a good performance, but we were unlucky with our chances, whereas they enjoyed the luck with their opportunities," he said.

"I thought it was a very good, competitive game for 60 minutes - no one could tell who was going to win.

"We started the second half very well, but we needed to score when we were on top and instead, they scored a second goal and that won them the game.

"We worked hard and we deserved something from the game.

"Everyone - management and players - were happy with our performance.

"But the manager said we've got to take our chances.

"He was disappointed with the second goal and our defending from free kicks, but he said we will pick up.

"He's been telling us how hard the Premier League is for the last month.

"We've seen that now but I think we can continue playing well and get the results we need."

And Nenad has taken heart from the fact that Wolves were so competitive against a talented Hammers team which finished in the top half of the top flight last season.

"West Ham finished ninth last season so they're a very good team and I don't see why we can't make a real go of it here," he added.

"We played very well against them and deserved at least a point.

"It's a long season and there are many games, but we've got games tomorrow and Saturday and we've got to start winning matches soon.

"This club and this team deserve to stay in the Premier League."
