By his own admission the 24-year-old feels he could have done better during pre-season so far, and is now hoping to "kick on" as the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign grows ever closer.
He said: "Apart from the performances against North Queensland, MK Dons and
"I feel I've been very average and I've been disappointed.
"I've had a chat with the manager during the week to put over my concerns over how well I'm playing.
"He gave me a vote of confidence - but only after saying I wouldn't be starting last night!
"I was a bit down to be honest so this game was exactly what I needed.
"It was great to score a couple of goals to ease my way back into it.
"Hopefully I can kick on now and start the season well."
And Greg also hopes last night proves a sign of things to come in terms of his - and the team's - ability to get amongst the goals.
"It's very important we can score from different positions because we need goals from all over the place," he added.
"I hope I can score a few goals this season because I feel I can with free kicks and headers.
"So last night was a good thing in terms of scoring from different positions and from different players.
"I said to a couple of the lads before the game 'we need to score a few tonight' just to boost our confidence because we hadn't scored too many goals in pre-season.
"The only other time we'd scored more than one was against North Queensland Fury, which was two, so it was important to get a few."
