Jarvis Goal Earns Testimonial Draw

Posted on: Sun 02 Aug 2009

Doncaster Rovers 1 (Wilson 49)

Wolves 1 (Jarvis 64)

After falling behind shortly after the break, Wolves hit back through Matt Jarvis to earn a draw in Mickey Walker's testimonial game between Doncaster Rovers and Wolves at the Keepmoat Stadium.

James Hayter had the first goal attempt of the game when he fired over the bar from long range. Then, from a Nenad Miljiaš corner, Sam Hird almost headed into his own goal in attempting to clear.

John Spicer was too high with a 30-yard effort and Wolves responded with a first time shot from Miljiaš that was deflected narrowly over the bar.

In the 20th minute Wayne Hennessey had to push away a bouncing shot from Dean Sheils before Neil Sullivan collected a deflected shot from Miljiaš.

Then the Serbian midfielder shot over the bar after Sylvan Ebanks-Blake had pulled the ball back to him.

Stephen Ward's shot was gathered by Neil Sullivan after Miljiaš had supplied a through ball, and Kevin Foley completed the clearance after Wayne Hennessey had punched out a cross from Spicer.

Half-Time: Rovers 0 Wolves 0

Sullivan saved from Christophe Berra shortly after the resumption and Hennessey did well to deny Lewis Guy after a home free-kick had been pumped into the area.

Rovers took the lead in the 49th minute. A corner was only cleared as far as Mark Wilson who thumped a shot from the edge of the box high into the net beyond the reach of Hennessey.

Twice in a seven minute spell James Coppinger drove narrowly wide of the far post and, also for Rovers, Charles Fisher fired into the side netting with an angled shot.

Wolves drew level in the 64th minute through Jarvis who picked his spot from the left edge of the Rovers box after Andy Keogh's cross had run through to him.

Sullivan made a good save after Ebanks-Blake had turned Adam Lockwood and hit a low shot from 18-yards, and then substitute keeper Ben Smith had to make a diving save to keep out Andy Surman's low drive after Sam Vokes had set up the chance.
