We Will Get Berra

Posted on: Thu 30 Jul 2009

Christophe Berra is confident Wolves will step up their game in the remaining friendlies before the big Barclays Premier League kick-off on August 15.

Although results are never the be-all and end-all of friendlies, the Scottish defender admits no one likes to lose any competitive game after Wolves' latest reverse at MK Dons on Tuesday night.

But he believes there will be improvement as Wolves continue to work towards being at full throttle for the visit of West Ham on the opening day of the season.

"Friendlies are all part of the general build-up to getting match-fit, but it's still disappointing to get beat," said Christophe.

"Winning breeds confidence but pre-season results and form doesn't matter - all that matters is what we do on August 15 against West Ham.

"We still want to put on a performance and we still need to improve.

"We're still disappointed in the MK Dons game - they had one chance and scored - but we need to work on a few things and sharpen up and I'm sure that will come.

"We've got two and a half weeks to go until the start of the season which is a long time.

"We're not the only team going through this, so hopefully we can make another improvement in our performances on Saturday against Doncaster.

"We've got another two or three friendlies before the season starts so we've got time to improve before the first game."

Christophe admits it will always take time for new signings to fit in, just as it did for him when arriving from Hearts on February.

But the international has been impressed with defensive colleague Ronald Zubar.

He added:  "You call tell all the new signings are good players - they wouldn't be here if they weren't.

"Sometimes it takes time to adapt - I know when I came down from Hearts, it took me a couple of weeks to adapt.

"It's a different style of football from international football and foreign football, but I'm sure by the start of the season, he'll be ready for the Premier League.

"He knows how fast and furious it is and how you've got to be fast, strong and very good on the ball."
