Bristol City 2 (Haynes 33, Maynard 38)
Wolves 0
Two Bristol City goals in a five minute spell towards the end of the first-half condemned Wolves to a second friendly defeat in the space of four days
On a sweltering afternoon at Ashton Gate Wolves had to withstand some early pressure from the home side but the first real chance fell to the Molineux men when Greg Halford hooked the ball wide after a cross from Kevin Foley.
The woodwork came to Wolves' rescue in the ninth minute after Nicky Maynard had forced his way into the visitors area. The ball broke to David Clarkson whose 15-yard drive hit the inside of the post before bouncing out and being cleared.
Halford was too high with a header following a corner from Nenad Milijaš and then the Serbian midfielder hit a shot from 25-yards that City keeper Martin Lejsal had to turn behind.
Matt Jarvis then played a short corner to Andy Keogh and took a return pass before finding Milijaš who drove wide of the far post.
City took the lead in the 33rd minute through Danny Haynes who ran onto Nicky Maynard's through ball and turned Christophe Berra before firing past Hennessey.
Haynes had the chance to net a second but he volleyed straight at Hennessey before City did go two up with 38 minutes gone.
Maynard was the man on target when he let fly from 30-yards with a shot that dipped over Hennessey and under the bar.
Just before the break Stephen Ward worked a shooting position for himself but his effort went straight into the arms of Lejsal.
Half-Time: City 2 Wolves 0
Three minutes after the restart Haynes beat the offside trap but in a one on one duel with Hennessey it was the Welsh keeper that came out on top with a fine block.
Jarvis used his pace to beat his marker in a sprint to the by-line. He pulled the ball back to Milijaš whose shot was deflected over the bar.
Hennessey made a reflex save as he kept out Lewin Nyatanga's close range header after Hartley had pumped a free-kick into the Wolves area.
Milijaš's shot was too close to Lejsal after he had held off a defender's challenge, and at the other end Maynard fired into the side netting after he had been set up by Marvin Elliott.
With the game an hour old, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was pulled back by Jamie McCombe three-yards outside the City box. Milijaš took the free-kick and the ball looked destined for the top corner until Lejsal leapt across his goal to make a flying save.
Ward's low shot was saved by the Czech keeper after the home defence had struggled to clear Milijaš's corner, but City were still looking dangerous whenever they went forward.
Right on full time a tremendous shot from substitute George Friend drew an equally good save from Lejsal ending Wolves' hopes of a consolation goal.
