Wolves boss Mick McCarthy admits it was "just another game" last night as his team maintained their 100 per cent pre-season record with a win at neighbours Walsall.

Andrew Surman's first half goal secured the third successive victory and while Wolves withstood a strong second half Saddlers fightback Mick admitted it's fitness that remains the priority.

"It's another game - we wanted another good 90 minutes and we got one," said the boss.

"It's still all about getting players fit and ready for the start of the season.

"I've said before I hate pre-season, I hate it with a vengeance.

"I hate the games, it's just a case of getting ready and getting fit and yet we all put great store on it.

"I remember standing there last season after we'd been beaten at Wrexham and it was 'woe is me' but we got better and better from there.

"It's another game and we've won it but that's not the important thing - just that we've come away unscathed.

"We've hardly covered the Midlands in fast and free-flowing football this evening but that's what it's like during pre-season."

The only injury scare of the evening was an ankle knock sustained by the goalscorer but Andrew is expected to be fine.

Bobo Balde got another chance to try and impress as he continues his trial and Mick admits he was pleased with the big defender.

"It's so difficult for people to come and have trials in pre-season friendlies because of the nature of the games when people are trying to get fit," he said.

"I thought Bobo got better in the game, he missed a few headers early on but then started to win things and looked like a big and strong centre back."

Mick was also delighted to see the Wolves fans make the short trip to the Banks' Stadium in such vast numbers, supplying 3,390 of the overall crowd of 5,867.

"It was brilliant to see all the fans here," he admitted.

"They supported us through thick and thin last season all over the place and it's great they all want to come now we're a Premier League team.

"There's a buzz around the place, people are optimistic and enthusiastic and looking forward to the season as we all are."

Next stop is Vale Park tonight with a brand new starting line-up full of senior players.

Nenad Milijaš will figure providing he returns from obtaining his work visa in Serbia in time while Michael Kightly is in line for his first taste of pre-season action likely to be 30 minutes maximum.

Kick off tonight is 7.30pm and Wolves fans will be housed in the Hamil Road End.

Admission is £8 for adults and £4 concessions and a matchday programme will be available for £2.
