Wolves have this afternoon completed the signing of Marseille centre back Ronald Zubar on a four-year deal.

The 24-year-old, who joins for an undisclosed fee subject to receiving the appropriate documentation from Marseille, becomes Wolves sixth signing of the summer ahead of the return to the Barclays Premier League and fourth in the last week.

Boss Mick McCarthy is delighted that Wolves fought off some pretty fierce competition to capture a player who has played in the Champions League in each of the last two seasons.

The club have been on Ronald's trail for a considerable time, and he has been closely monitored in particular by Wolves' former assistant manager and now scout Ian Evans.

"Ronald is a quick powerful defender who has played for the French under-21s and has got Champions League experience as well," said Mick.

"I'm delighted we've managed to get him.

"Taff's seen him a lot and we've had some very good reports from those watching him out in France.

"He will prove a valuable addition to the squad and I'm very much looking forward to working with him."

Born in Guadeloupe, one of France's overseas regions, Ronald started his career with Caen in the second division,  making 96 appearances and scoring two goals and helping the team earn promotion to 'Ligue One' 2004.

His performances attracted interest from top flight clubs from several countries, but he opted to stay in France and sign for Marseille in 2006.

His three seasons with the top flight club have included gaining experience in the Champions League, including two narrow defeats to Liverpool in last year's competition.

"We're delighted to have signed our fourth player of the week," said Wolves' CEO Jez Moxey.

"It's been a really busy and hectic time but we are generally thrilled to come out at the end of the week by signing Ronald from Marseille.

"From the very outset Mick wanted to sign Ronald and it's been difficult and challenging because there was competition for him and it was another international transfer which are never easy.

"He is a great athlete with a tremendous pedigree who has played in the Champions League and played in a high pressure situation in Marseille for three seasons.

"Coming to Wolves in the Premier League won't faze him and he is a genuine guy who is very excited about being here."

Ronald will now fly out to the pre-season tour of Australia on Tuesday with fellow summer signing Nenad Milijaš.

And they will also be joined on the flight by French defender Bobo Balde.

Bobo, currently a free agent after previously being with Celtic, is joining the pre-season tour with a view to trying to impress during training and the two games with Perth Glory and North Queensland Fury.
