Squad For Australia

Posted on: Sat 04 Jul 2009

Wolves will fly out tonight on their pre-season tour of Australia with an initial squad of 23 players - to be joined by Nenad Milijaš on Tuesday.

And that will mean that all five new summer signings will have the benefit of the fortnight's tour in terms of being able to get to know their team-mates and continue to work on fitness.

Wolves are playing two matches during the tour as they step up preparations for the Barclays Premier League - against Perth Glory on July 10 and North Queensland Fury on July 15.

Boss Mick McCarthy is all set for the trip which for most of the travelling party - himself included - will mean a first visit to Australia.

"
I've very much looking to the tour," the boss declared.

"I've never been to Australia before but am told Perth is great place.

"It's great for the lads that have joined and just gets you back together bonding again.

"I don't know what the standard of opposition will be but it doesn't matter.

"We're back before anybody else and it's our first two games.

"I don't want two really tough games where we go over there and are having a real humdinger of a game ten days after being back.

"I want to break us back in gently and get back to playing and having a bit of shape to us.

"It's like when we lost to Wrexham last year and lost and it was all 'woe is me' and we went on to win the league by seven points.

"I look forward to all friendlies over pre-season and the nonsense that goes with it and then we'll get on with the season.

"Everything should be done as a slow burner."

New signings Marcus Hahnemann, Kevin Doyle, Andrew Surman and Greg Halford will all be on the plane tonight for the trip, which is being supported by Wolves sponsors Sportingbet.com

Nenad is currently back home in Serbia but is due to fly out to join the rest of the squad on Tuesday.
