Surman: Something Special
Andrew Surman is hopeful he has arrived at the start of "something special" as he checks in at Wolves ahead of the return to the Premier League.
The versatile midfielder put pen to paper on a three-year contract to complete his move from Southampton yesterday and is already fully in the swing of the pre-season regime at
The 22-year-old believes the mix of youth and experience within the Wolves squad should serve them well for the challenges of the Premier League.
"It would be nice to think the club is at the start of something special," he said.
"We've got such a young team and whatever happens this season, we've got a base to build from.
"I think a lot of people say you can't win anything with young players, but you look at Wolves winning the league and the average age of the team is very young so they probably proved a lot of people wrong.
"It's a great team to come into when there's such a young, fresh look to it.
"There are some great young players but there are some great experienced players here as well so I think there's a good mix here.
"We've got a good base and it will be a good experience whatever happens next season for all the young players who haven't played in the Premier League before."
Andrew has already gleaned a sense of the sort of work ethic and team spirit within the ranks at Molineux.
Having become a father himself five months ago, he also believes he is of a similar sort of grounding to the rest of the players already in situe.
"I think having a child and the responsibility that brings probably has helped me really I think," he confirms.
"Speaking to Jez and the manager, they have a high sense of ethics at this club.
"They don't want big-time players coming in here and ruining the team spirit.
"There's a great team spirit here and that's probably because it's a very down to earth bunch of players who are honest and want to get on with their jobs and that can only hold the club in good stead."
