Winner Revealed Of Sportingbet.com's Oz Trip Of A Lifetime

Posted on: Wed 17 Jun 2009

A devoted Wolves Season Ticket Holder and lifelong fan has won an all-expenses paid VIP trip to the team's pre-season tour of Australia - thanks to official club sponsor Sportingbet.com.

Michael Elvins, from Kidderminster, has described the prize as a "trip of a lifetime" after being drawn from more than a thousand entries to the competition organised by Wolves' new sponsor.

Michael, who is taking his daughter and fellow Season Ticket Holder Becky on the trip, will fly business class to Perth and enjoy seven nights accommodation in a five-star hotel.

There are also VIP match tickets to see Wolves play their two competitive fixtures against Perth Glory and North Queensland Fury, as well as the chance to meet boss Mick McCarthy and the players.

Not to mention a cool £1,000 spending money!

"It's fantastic and I can't wait," said Michael.

"My wife Linda actually entered the competition for me - she's not a football fan but she knows how much I'd want to go.

"We were actually on holiday in Corfu and I got a phone call saying that I'd won.

"The signal wasn't great and to be honest I thought it was one of my mates winding me up!

"Obviously it was an amazing feeling when I realised it was all genuine and I got home to receive the e-mail confirmation from the team at Sportingbet.com.

"It is a trip of a lifetime with everything thrown in starting with flying business class - we usually fly cattle class!"

Michael, 48, whose Season Ticket is in the South Bank, has been a Wolves fan for 40 years and also travels to away games with fellow supporters from Kidderminster.

He admits he would have had "no chance" of attending this year's tour without winning the Sportingbet.com competition.

"We went up to Scotland last year and had a weekend in Glasgow and watched Wolves play Kilmarnock," he explains.

"We were looking forward to finding out where it was this year but as soon as we found out it was Australia we had no chance.

"It's just incredible that we are going to be heading down there and I can't describe how grateful we are to Sportingbet.com for the opportunity."

CEO of Sportingbet.com, Andy McIver, said they were delighted to be able to offer Michael such a fantastic and memorable experience.

"We were looking for a way to make a difference to Wolves' fans and to do something for the Midlands community," said Mr McIver.

"When the opportunity to sponsor Wolves' Australia tour came up, we saw our chance."

The competition was advertised exclusively in Wolverhampton and the surrounding area, giving the fans a great chance to win.

"We focused all media on the local community, which meant fans did not have to compete with the rest of the UK to win - you could say we tipped the odds in their favour," he said.

"Wolves fans and the club have been great - we were rewarded by so many emails of appreciation. We're delighted with the sponsorship and the season hasn't even started yet," Mr McIver said.

Second prize in the competition was a VIP day at the Compton training ground while 100 runners-up also received the new 2009/10 home kits which have proved extremely popular since going on sale.
