Ebanks-Blake Returns To Training

Posted on: Thu 16 Apr 2009

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is hoping to hand Wolves a boost ahead of Saturday's potentially pivotal Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers by coming through training today and declaring himself fit.

The Championship's top scorer has missed the last three games after picking up a calf strain on England-under-21 duty and then, having recovered from that, a hamstring problem in training ahead of the defeat at Birmingham.

And the striker is hoping to come through a couple of days training in order to give boss Mick McCarthy a pleasant selection dilemma given Wolves have scored six goals in the last two games.

"I'm back training again today," said the 24-goal frontman.

"It's been a hard couple of weeks just trying to get fit and back up to speed but hopefully I'll come through without any problems and I'll be back in the fold.

"I'd recovered from the calf injury but pulled my hamstring in training  before the Birmingham game.

"It's been a case of taking time out to make  sure we get it completely right but it feels good.

"We've stepped things up over the last couple of days and now training today is the real test.

"If I come through it will give the gaffer a nice selection problem.

"If I'm back it will give the gaffer a headache but that's football and I'm sure he'd sooner have that one that the different headache of not having enough players to select from.

"We'll just have to see what happens."

Sylvan continues:  "Of course I'd love to be involved.

"I love playing football and love playing games and that's what I want to do between now and the end of the season.

"I want to finish on a high.

"It's up to the manager but either way I'll just keep very professional and get on with the job."

It's a sign of the sort of strength in depth that has been assembled at Molineux that Wolves could not only recover from a disappointing derby defeat at Birmingham to register two successive wins - but also do so without almost 50 goals in the shape of injured trio Sylvan, Chris Iwelumo and Michael Kightly.

"I've always said that this is a very good squad but it's improved since I've been here," says Sylvan.

"You need a good squad through the course of a season and that's come to light with us.

"We've needed a squad and players who've maybe not played as many games to then step up and do the business and they have.

Andy Keogh

"Andy Keogh's come in and done that, Jarvo's come back in after his injury, and people have come back in, stepped up to the plate and made important contributions in big games as well.

"That just shows just how strong a squad we've got.

"We might not have put too much onus on it beforehand but I think the lads went out there and won the last two matches that we really needed to win.

"It's nice to be able to sit here and say that."

Wolves need just one win from their remaining three games to clinch promotion to the Premier League, with QPR the first of those fixtures.

And Sylvan believes they will aim to wrap things up in style.

"It's very close now," he says.

"A lot of people are very happy with the position we're in and it's a great position to be in but we've got to finish the job.

"What a position to be in with three games to go when we only need to match up other results whether it's win, lose or draw.

"You can't ask for any more than that but we'll be trying to get the job done in style by winning our last three games."
