Wolves' new boy Marlon Harewood insists he's not looking any further than the next six games and helping the team fulfil their promotion dream.

A lack of action at Aston Villa has prompted the well-regarded striker to agree a loan move to Molineux, and he is keen to make a contribution as the promotion push nears its decisive phase.

As to the prospect of anything beyond that, the 29-year-old is not even thinking about it.

"The gaffer at Villa hasn't been using me too much and so when he said Wolves had come in it was a good opportunity for me to come and try and get a few games in," says Marlon, who underwent his first training session yesterday.

"It will be nice to give whatever I can give to help the boys out and try and get them promoted.

"I don't know about looking beyond these six games - people might say I've got something to prove but all I'm doing is looking forward to getting back in and enjoying my football.

"The manager just told me he wanted to come in and boost the squad.

"He wants to get the team promoted and so do I.

"I will give anything I can to help out because the lads have done really well to get where they are and all I'm thinking about is playing these six games."

Marlon admits he hasn't been able to argue about his lack of action at Aston Villa given how well the performed this season.

And given the strength in depth of Wolves' strikeforce - including the Championship Golden Boot holder and current leading scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - he knows he faces a challenge to break into Mick McCarthy's starting eleven.

"All strikers relish competition for places and knowing that whoever goes on the pitch has to perform and score the goal," he added.

"When a striker scores goals it's good for the team whoever that may be.

"I'm just going to work hard and keep going and when I go out on the pitch it's up to me to take the opportunity and score goals.

"I know the strikers have been doing well and Sylvan is the top scorer in the Championship - 24 goals at this level is very good.

"Hopefully I can help him get even more goals.

"There are no guarantees about me starting and it's a good challenge for me to face."

Marlon knows Kyel Reid and Nigel Quashie among the Wolves squad from their days at West Ham - and Nigel too from Nottingham Forest.

As an Aston Villa striker however, it's a potential debut of some sort in the big Midlands derby at Birmingham in nine days time which has already caught the eye!

"I'm not sure what reception I'll get if involved at Birmingham, we'll just have to see," he added.

"I'd love to be involved and anything I get from the supporters will only inspire me."
