Davies Offered New Contract

Posted on: Fri 23 Jan 2009

Mick McCarthy has revealed Mark Davies has been offered a new contract to stay at Wolves beyond the end of the season.

The midfielder's current deal expires at the end of the season and he is currently on loan with League One leaders Leicester.

Mick wouldn't comment specifically on reported interest from other clubs but has revealed Mark has been offered a new deal.

"Mark's out at Leicester and because he's playing there's a bit of interest in him," said Mick.

"He's been injured and it's taken a long time to get back to full fitness but he's come back now and is showing his worth.

"He's somebody that we want to keep but maybe he's seen the other side and wants to leave himself.

"But if a player ends up leaving it would only be because somebody pays his worth.

"He's played through every level at England and the only reason that was halted was through injury.

"He's out of contract and we've offered him a new one but if he does go in the summer we are entitled to compensation because he's under the age of 24."
