Wolves have unveiled plans for a Hall of Fame, with the first legends to be inducted at a special dinner in January 2009 (click HERE for further details).

A selection committee consisting of two Club executives, two Fans Parliament members, two Former Players' Association representatives and two members of the Press/ Media, supported by the Club's historians, has been formed to select the first group of Wolves legends from fans' nominations. The Wolves' Hall of Fame will be open to former players, managers and backroom staff or any other former Wolves representatives who have made a special and lasting contribution to the Club.

From today (20th November 2008) supporters can email their nominations to: halloffame@wolves.co.uk. The closing date for nominations is 26th November 2008. See below for the full criteria.

Today's announcement reflects Owner and Chairman Steve Morgan's desire to direct more attention to better honouring the club's rich history - for both current and future generations of Wolves supporters. It is hoped that the Wolves' Hall of Fame will have a prominent and permanent home in a club museum, which will be built as part of any future redevelopment of Molineux. In the meantime, the Club is considering a number of options on how best to 'recognise' the first series of inductees who will take their place in this new initiative to celebrate the club's illustrious past.

How Will It Work?

A panel has been formed consisting of representatives from the Club, Fans' Parliament, Former Players' Association and Press/Media (see below).

From today (20th November 2008) supporters can email their Hall of Fame nominations to: halloffame@wolves.co.uk. The closing date for nominations is Wednesday, 26th November 2008.

For the inaugural year only, Wolves' history will be split into five defined periods: (1) 1877 to 1915 (2) 1919 to 1945 (3) 1946 to 1960 (4) 1961 to 1990 (5) 1991 to present day.

It is envisaged that six legends will be inducted for the inaugural event. There will be one from each generation with the exception of the period 1946 to 1960 where two greats will be selected, recognising Wolves' outstanding achievements during this time.

In forthcoming years, there will be NO defined periods or specified numbers to be inducted.

The inductees will be announced over the coming weeks on the lead up to a specially arranged Hall of Fame dinner, which will take place on 15th January 2009. Visit www.wolves.co.uk for more details.

The Club reserves the right to change or amend any of the Hall of Fame criteria at any time.

The Club reserves the right to have the ultimate final say on any person to be inducted.

What Are The Criteria?

Legends will be selected on the basis of those individuals who have left a lasting and special impact on Wolverhampton Wanderers. This can be evidenced in a number of ways such as: service to the Club, number of games played, exceptional playing ability and/or playing achievement. The panel will also consider players who have gained notable International recognition.

Consideration can also be given to individuals who have made significant off the pitch contributions to Wolves - it will not be confined to former players only.

Current Wolves players will NOT be eligible for the Wolves' Hall of Fame.

Wolves' CEO Jez Moxey, said: "We're delighted to announce the creation of the Wolves' Hall of Fame. Although there will be in depth debate over the first set of inductees, we want our Hall of Fame to be special, something that grows and becomes more and more important. We want the great history of this Club to be remembered and celebrated. In time, we hope to open a museum where our legends and their stories can be easily shared and enjoyed on a daily basis with our supporters. And our fans will play their part in helping us to identify the wonderful achievements of our great players; the great legends whom have helped create the special football club that is Wolves.

"We're delighted that both the Former Players' Association represented by Malcolm Finlayson and Derek Parkin and the Fans' Parliament will serve on the committee, playing a key role in the selection of our legendary ex-players, as will Express & Star chief sports writer Martin Swain and former Sports Editor Steve Gordos."

Malcolm Finlayson, Chairman of The Wolves Former Players' Association, said: "Wolverhampton Wanderers is blessed with a deep and rich history, which is admired right across the football world. We're very pleased that former Wolves players will be recognised in this way and also that their achievements - in whatever form they came - will be brought to the attention of a new generation."
