Mick McCarthy has re-iterated that there is just no point getting carried away with Wolves excellent start to the season - because it will only fire up the opposition.

The Wolves boss and his squad have been at great pains to keep their feet on the ground despite a stunning opening to the campaign which has brought 16 points from the first six games.

And part of the reason is that he knows just how quickly fortunes turn in the Championship, and wants to keep everything on the level as much as possible.

"It's been a great start and of course we're pleased with it," says Mick.

"But we're not completely content because there's such a long way to go.

"If things don't go well at Preston tomorrow they could be top and we could fall a few places.

"We're not sat here thinking everything's just going to be easy - far from it.

"I don't think people would expect me to be walking around smiling because, top or bottom of the league, I stay exactly the same.

"If ever you change then there are always people just waiting for you to slip up.

"If anyone saw us starting to crow then they would certainly want to knock us off our perch - that's for sure.

"So we're certainly not going to rub anyone's nose in it  because they are going to want to beat us anyway.

"As I've said all along, there's hardly anything between all the teams in our league and that is why no one is getting carried away."
