The adage 'you can't keep a good man down' must surely have been created for George Elokobi.

Because whatever situation he finds himself in, the big man from Cameroon seems incapable of keeping the smile from his face.

At about 4.20pm on Saturday things couldn't have been much better for George.

In the form of his life, having nailed down the Wolves left back spot and playing another major contribution as his team led at Ipswich.

Then, as he tried to shepherd the ball out of play, one slight and certainly not malicious nudge from an Ipswich player later, George was lying on the floor in agony with a cruel and untimely knee injury.

More of the extent of the problem will become clear over the next 24 hours or so after George undergoes a scan today.

Keeping fingers crossed it's nothing serious, but equally ready to overcome whatever the scan should show up, he was already back at Wolves training ground yesterday and very much in high spirits.

"George should be having his scan today but you wouldn't know what had happened because he came in yesterday and was a breath of fresh air," said boss Mick McCarthy.

"It's just disappointing for him and disappointing for all of us because he has been terrific."

The entrance to the training ground resembled an episode of Casualty yesterday as George hobbled out of a taxi on crutches and Jody Craddock, starting his rehabilitation for a broken metatarsal, came in the other direction on crutches to clamber into the taxi himself.

And George was immediately making his booming voice heard far and wide.

"Obviously I'm disappointed but there's no point getting too worried about it," he said.

"That's football, and these things happen.

"I could either stay at home and get all grumpy about it or keep my spirits up and start thinking about my rehabilitation.

"I'm not even going to think about what it might be, I'll just leave that to the experts.

"For me it's just about facing the music but whatever I get told I'll be ready to come in for treatment and get right again."

And before departing to start talking recovery options with physio Steve Kemp, George also revealed his muscular physique is not the only thing he shares with film-star-turned-California-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, saying:  "The only thing I'm definitely certain of is that I'll be back - you can rest assured of that!"
