Davies Decision Remains Up For Debate
Mick McCarthy admits he remains undecided about whether to send Mark Davies out on loan after the midfielder's match-winning contribution from the substitute's bench in midweek.
The Wolves boss believes the talented midfielder needs games in order to hone his match fitness after two injury-hit years and had been considering sending him out on loan to get him fully up to speed.
But Mark's impact from the bench in providing the decisive goal to see off Accrington Stanley has left Mick with food for thought, even though the midfielder still has work to do to climb the pecking order.
"Mark is getting there," said Mick.
"He came in and did well the other night and scored his goal.
"To be honest I had been considering loaning him out because he's not played much football for the last two seasons.
"He still needs more but he's getting plenty of training and is working hard.
"And we all know he's a good player when he's fit.
"He's not yet in a position where he's overtaken some of the others in the pecking order but it was a good goal and a good cameo against Accrington Stanley."
Mark is one of a number of players currently battling for a spot in the matchday 16 which Mick believes is all positive in terms of competition for places.
Not least as he has revealed there's a supportive mood running through the whole squad whoever is in the team.
"I changed the team the other night and I said to the players it could have been any six players I took out because the ones that came in are all good players.
"They've all been terrific and what's really nice is that they are all supporting each other.
"The best thing is that those that aren't in the team are really pushing to be in there and that competition is proved by the fact that those that came in did well.
"Places are always up for grabs - if they weren't there'd be no point in anyone else training or working hard.
"There's always been that motivation for those on the outside to get in the team and those that are in to try and stay there.
"They're all being pushed and all being challenged and that's a good position for me to be in as a manager."
