Wayne Hennessey today called for the Wolves fans to mark the launch of Molineux's Championship season by roaring the team to victory against Sheffield Wednesday.

The club's Player of the Year is relishing running out in front of the first 20,000-plus gate of the season tomorrow, and hopes the team will give the returning fans the perfect early-season tonic with a good performance and all three points.

And the Welsh international keeper is also confident the Wolves' faithful will get right behind the team from the first whistle setting a benchmark to make Molineux a happy stamping ground over the whole season.

"The fans here are great and I don't think they understand sometimes how much they really do make a difference," says Wayne.

"The cheering and support from the stands really does help the players and it just seems to give that added boost which can be so important.

"If a winger's taking on his man with the ball and the crowd are behind him it can just make that difference in spurring him on to get past him.

"Most of the fans are really spot-on, they boost you and give you exactly what you need.

"And when you come out of the tunnel at Molineux in front of a decent crowd it's great to see them all and hear them cheering."

Wayne has nothing but praise for the support he has received since breaking into the team barely 15 months ago, not least when after a rare mistake at home to Burnley last season they immediately responded by singing his name.

He admits that gave him a big lift, and insists the rest of the players are equally boosted when enjoying the crowd's support.

"It's been great to hear them singing for Sylvan and Andy already this season and they were great to me when I made a mistake against Burnley last season," he adds.

"All the players need it, because to hear praise instead of criticism really boosts a player and gives him that added edge.

"And who knows when that extra bit of support might actually get us a goal.

"We've seen how great the fans can be at Molineux and we'll certainly need that over the course of the season."
