The paperwork was being completed this morning to tie up the deal which sees Jay join the Bluebirds for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old, who spent the end of last season on loan at Stoke, will link up with former Wolves boss Dave Jones at the club's Championship rivals.

"Jay certainly contributed to the team when he was here and scored some important goals," said boss Mick McCarthy.

"He was made available for transfer because he was no longer part of our plans but we wish him well for the future."

Jay was one of Mick's first signings when he took over at Wolves two years ago.

All in all he made 37 starts during his time at the club and a further 23 appearances as substitute.

Those appearances brought 13 goals, including memorable winners against Leeds and West Bromwich Albion.

Jay could be in line to make his first appearance for Cardiff tonight at Chasetown, where he also turned out for Wolves last month.

Meanwhile Mick confirmed this morning that Ian Harte will not be returning to Molineux.

Ian spent three weeks on trial at Wolves but has rejected a short term deal.
