Hereford United 1 (Guinan-pen 17)

Wolves 3 (Kightly 30, S. Ward 47, 75)

Wolves took the Bulls by the horns coming from behind in convincing style to win an entertaining friendly against Hereford at Edgar Street.

The Molineux squad looked sharp throughout the game and were rewarded with a fine strike from Michael Kightly and a second-half brace from Stephen Ward.

In the opening minutes Kightly collected a deep cross from Daniel Jones but his shot on the turn went over the far angle. Moments later, from another Jones centre, first Chris Iwelumo then Kightly had goalbound shots blocked by defenders.

Andy Keogh dragged a shot wide shortly before United moved ahead in the 17th minute from their first attack.

Jody Craddock caught Bradley Hudson-Odoi as the former Fulham striker chased Steve Guinan's through ball just inside the Wolves box. Guinan sent Wayne Hennessey the wrong way from the spot.

Craig Samson did well to claim George Elokobi's swerving cross as Keogh threatened, but the keeper stood no chance as Kightly lashed home a tremendous first-time volley from Jones' centre in the 30th minute.

Jones was hurt as he fell after crossing but he was able to continue after treatment.

Nineteen-year-old Hereford defender Garry Breen managed to force the ball behind and prevent Chris Iwelumo from marking his debut with a goal. From Kightly's corner, George Elokobi powered a glancing header inches wide.

David Edwards tested Samson with a 20-yard drive and Breen came to his team's rescue again when he headed Keogh's centre away from the inrushing Iwelumo who would otherwise have been a certain scorer.

Shortly before the break of a one sided first-half, Samson dived to save Iwelumo's flick following yet another Kightly flag-kick.

Half-Time; Hereford 1 Wolves 1

As he did at Wrexham, Mick McCarthy sent out a new side for the second period which was less than two minutes old when Wanderers moved into the lead.

David Jones had already hit a long range shot that flashed just wide before Stephen Ward found space inside the area and turned smartly before hitting an angled shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake headed into Samson's arms after Matt Jarvis had supplied the cross, then Samson made a fine, diving save to tip away Ebanks-Blake's follow up to Stephen Ward's blocked shot.

In a rare Hereford attack, Hudson-Odoi's shot was deflected over Carl Ikeme's crossbar but Wolves were soon back on the attack and it came as no surprise when the visitors increased their lead with 75 minutes gone.

Mark Little drove a low cross through the Hereford six-yard box. The ball went behind Ebanks-Blake but ran to Jarvis whose shot looked to be behind the line when it was scooped clear by substitute keeper Darren Randolph.

But there was no escape for the home side as Ward ran in to ram the ball high up into the net.

Two minutes later Ward almost completed his hat-trick but Randolph dived full length to save after Ebanks-Blake had set up the chance for the Irish striker.

Ward repaid the favour when he turned a Jarvis centre into the path of Ebanks-Blake who saw his shot bounce clear off the angle with Randolph beaten.
