Gradual Improvement
David Jones is confident Wolves will gradually improve over pre-season in order to peak at just the right time for the big Championship kick-off.
The midfield summer signing made his first appearance in Wolves colours playing the second half of Saturday's opening friendly at Wrexham, ironically the town where he was brought up and involved in junior football.
Whilst admitting it was good to be back out on the pitch and back playing football, David was not reading too much into Saturday's 1-0 defeat insisting the early part of pre-season is all about fitness.
"It was nice to get back into it," he said.
"Everyone is trying to get fitness in pre-season games and it was good to get a runout.
"Results don't mean anything, but it's still disappointing to lose because it's your own personal pride.
"But pre-season it about getting fitness and getting back into it so it was good.
"As a new player it's all about gelling as well but it's clear we've got a really good team spirit- it seems I know the lads quite well already.
"It's just a case of getting used to how they play on the field.
"The balls haven't been out that long - only over the last week, so this week we'll be trying to get to know each other's games.
"That will come after a while, but it was just nice to get a runout on Saturday to get a feel of what everyone's game is about."
David admits he was impressed by the performance of the returning Mark Davies, his colleague in the engine room for Saturday's second half, and believes there is plenty of healthy competition for places in Wolves' midfield.
"Just from playing alongside Sparky, he looks a quality act," he added.
"We were on the same wavelength which is good.
"As midfielders, we both like to link play and already I think there's an understanding there.
"I haven't seen much of him before I was here because he has been injured, but I can see he's a decent player who I'm looking forward to playing with.
"Competition for places is good.
"Just in the last week I've seen the quality of the midfield and that's only going to be good for the club."
It was perhaps ironic for David that he should launch his Wolves career back where it all began at Wrexham many years ago.
As a result there was plenty of local interest in his return at the weekend.
"I was born in
"There were quite a few family and friends at the game and I also know a few people who work at the club and players - it's always nice to go back.
"I actually played for Wrexham from the age of eight until I was 11 and I played in a Wrexham league for a little village called Gresford just down the road.
"The family still live at Gresford - my mum and dad live five or 10 minutes down the road and I went to school here until I was 16 before I moved to Manchester.
"It feels like I go there every season - Manchester United and
