Wrexham 1 (Baynes 49)

Wolves began their pre-season schedule of friendly games with a narrow defeat at Wrexham in a low key affair at the Racecourse Ground.

A free-kick from Wes Baynes shortly after the interval proved to be the dividing factor between the teams.

Wrexham played in blue shirts instead of their familiar red, whilst Wolves opted for their new black away strip for the game.

Wolves included 18-year-old Cypriot midfielder Valentino Sheilis in their line-up for the first-half of the friendly.

Wrexham's Jefferson Louis got in the first goal attempt of the contest with Wayne Hennessey having to parry a fierce effort before collecting the ball.

Then Richard Stearman had to head behind Simon Spender's cross for a corner. Silvio Spann's flag-kick was half cleared to Tom Kearney who drove over from just outside the area.

In the 24th minute Michael Proctor slipped a short pass into the path of Sam Aiston who hit a long-range shot narrowly wide of the post.

Home keeper Gavin Ward cleared crosses from Michael Kightly and Stephen Ward but Wrexham had another opportunity when Proctor headed over after a deep centre from Kearney.

In the final minute of the half Gavin Ward saved well from Andy Keogh's first time effort following a short cross from Kightly.

As expected, both clubs fielded entirely new sides at the start of the second-half which was just four minutes old when Wes Baines broke the deadlock hammering a 30-yard free-kick beyond the dive of Carl Ikeme.

Anthony Williams plucked a Michael Gray corner out of the air as Wolves looked for a quick response but Ikeme was soon back in action making a smart save to keep out a low effort from Marc Williams.

Wrexham threatened again through Simon Brown, who fired into the arms of Ikeme, and then Neill Collins did well to block a shot from Neil Taylor who had been set up by Marc Williams.

Stephen Elliott's shot ballooned over the bar for an unproductive corner off Steve Evans and then, in quick succession, Elliott and Mark Davies had shots comfortably saved by Williams.

Just before the end, Elliott headed wide following a cross from Gray.
