Breen Leaves And Five More Available for Transfer

Posted on: Fri 09 May 2008

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has ended a 12-year association with skipper Gary Breen. The defender, who is out of contract this summer, left Molineux on Monday.

Five other players - Jay Bothroyd, Rob Edwards, Darren Potter, Darren Ward and Stephen Elliott - have been made available for transfer. Yesterday it was announced that Freddy Eastwood has been told he can leave.

The club will be taking up their one-year option on Jody Craddock and are in discussions with Michael Gray, who is also out of contract next month.

The on-loan trio of Kevin Kyle, Darron Gibson and Graham Stack have returned to Coventry, Manchester United and Reading respectively.

Mick says: "We want to make some changes and freshen things up, so we need to generate places for new players by transfer listing some of the squad. And these players themselves will want regular first team football to develop their own careers.

"As for Breeny, he wants to continue playing.

"I've had 12 great years working with him at club and international level. We both knew it would come to an end at some stage.

"He keeps himself really fit and has been a fine example to the younger lads. He's been a terrific pro and I'm sure he will go on and be a great asset for someone."

Keith Lowe, who has spent the season on loan at Port Vale, is also out of contract and not being re-signed. Kevin O'Connor will likewise not be re-engaged but will remain at the club until he is fully recovered from his recent hamstring operation.

A one-year option will be taken up with Academy graduate Matt Bailey.
