It's Not The End - It's The Start
Wolves' entire season was, in many ways, summed up by the final game against Plymouth at home this afternoon.
Winning by three goals would have secured a place in the play-offs, but whilst they kept a clean sheet and created numerous chances, the team failed to capitalise sufficiently on their opportunities. A single Seyi Olofofinjana goal was all the Molineux side could produce.
However, boss Mick McCarthy, despite his obvious disappointment, refused to be downhearted and vowed that his young and evolving side would be stronger for the experience.
He said: "We didn't just nick it today. We played a team who strung five across the middle and we still created opportunities.
"But the final touch needed to be more decisive.
"The lads have worked their socks off, we have had 19 clean sheets during the campaign but not put the ball into the net often enough.
"Today's game was a reflection on the season - when we have been dominant we have not taken our chances.
"We could have got three today but didn't and that's been the story all year.
"There will be changes in the summer - players come and go - but the nucleus will be staying.
"For a lot of the players here the recent games have been the biggest of their careers. They are young and will come back hungry for more.
"Individually are some of those players ready for the Premiership? I believe they have to continue to develop their careers and this is a fabulous place to do it.
"It isn't the end, it's the start. We will re-group and come again. But at the moment we are all bitterly disappointed.
"The positives we take away are that this is a young and developing side. If nurtured it will improve.
"The club has a team to be proud of."
On the pitch at the end of the game chairman Steve Morgan thanked the fans for their support. He then added: "Wolves are going forward and will be back where we belong - in the Premiership."
