We Didn't Deserve That

Posted on: Sat 19 Apr 2008

Mick McCarthy expressed sympathy and support for his players after the heartbreak of conceding an injury time equaliser against Ipswich this afternoon.

This followed a 73rd minute strike from Ebanks-Blake which looked to have won Wolves a crucial three points for their play-off challenge.

The boss said: "It's a bitter pill to swallow. The lads didn't deserve that after the week they've had.

"I feel desperately sorry for them. They have given everything and I couldn't ask any more of them.

"It's a shame if that late goal changes the fans' perception of me and the team.

"I'm not sure it was a stonewall free-kick. It was two big lads going for the ball.

"I think they were fabulous and I'm proud of them all.

"If at the end we are not good enough them that's what it will be - because we are not good enough and not because we haven't worked hard.

"Sylvan has been remarkable and scored a goal that should have been the winner - so I'm not going to complain about what may have been (his miss in the first half).

"We will be back in tomorrow and on Tuesday we will try and win the game and the two after that."

David Edwards has tweaked his cartilage and will be assessed tomorrow.
