David Edwards made a promising return to action for the reserves last night.

The midfielder, who has been out injured with a groin problem, played just over a hour against Albion and came close to getting on the scoresheet.

Now, with a free weekend coming up, the former Luton man is aiming to be back in contention for the trip to Bristol City.

He said: "I felt really good last night and I'm glad to be back.

"It's been good to have a couple of weeks off to rest because I'm feeling a lot sharper than I was when I was playing and it (groin) was stiff.

"I had a shot early in the second half that just went over the bar. I thoroughly enjoyed getting an hour under my belt because there's nothing like match fitness especially with no games for a while.

"I've got a clear run to the Bristol City game now so I've just got to train hard because I know it's going to be difficult to break back into the team.

"I've just got to do whatever I can in training and if it means playing in the reserves, then I'll do my best there as well.

"But I don't think I'll need another reserve game. I've got quite a good fitness base - I felt like I could have played the full 90 minutes last night. I was just a bit cautious.

"I think I could be in contention but the team's doing very well at the moment, so I've just got to work hard to get into the manager's thoughts."
