Michael Kightly is set to get the New Year off to a good start - by getting back into training.

The influential midfielder injured an ankle in the derby game at West Bromwich in November and although he won't figure in tomorrow's Molineux clash with Sheffield United, he is hoping to be included in the squad for the FA Cup tie against Cambridge at the weekend.

"I came in to Compton Park yesterday with one of the physios to give my ankle a try out and I have to admit that I felt a bit cautious," said Kights.

"My ankle was feeling good but I hadn't tried twisting and turning on it and, in the back of my mind, there was the nagging thought that it might let me down.

"But it went really well. I felt sharp and did some speed work running in and out of cones and there was no pain at all. I went in for a shower grinning like a Cheshire Cat

"I was wary that there might be a reaction this morning but again - but there's been no problem.

"I'll do some more work with the physios today and, hopefully, I'll be able to join up with the full squad later in the week."
