A trio of players will stake a claim for a place in the squad to face Albion on Sunday when they take part in a practise match against Aston Villa this morning.

Michael Gray (hamstring), Stephen Elliott (hamstring) and Darron Gibson (groin) will all start in the match being played at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground (KO 11am).

Rob Edwards (knee) is involved but not likely to be considered fit enough for the weekend's derby match. Mark Davies is also in the starting eleven.

"It's a chance for the lads who have been out for a few weeks with injuries to get some more football under their belts," says manager Mick McCarthy.

"Some of the other first team players will also be involved because there's been a two week break and this is a better workout for them than just training."

Michael Kightly is continuing his rehab after being sent home from the England under 21 squad due to his hamstring problem. He is expected to be back in full training by the end of the week.

Andy Keogh is also hoping to be fit by the weekend. The striker has had minor surgery on his groin.

The team to face Villa is: Stack, Little, Gray, Potter, Edwards, Craddock, Davies, Henry, Elliott, Gibson, Bothroyd. Subs from: Hughes, D Ward, Lumley, Salmon, Spalding, Ijaha, Hemmings.
