Wolves youngster Elliott Bennett has given another demonstration of his considerable potential by scoring his first goal in senior football.

The 18-year-old from Telford hit a late winner at Port Vale last night in his second game on loan for Crewe, having gone on as a second-half substitute for Ben Rix.

And news of his fine right-foot finish has been well received at his parent club, with Academy Manager Chris Evans saying today: "We were delighted to hear of Elliott's goal.

"He played right-back for Crewe against Yeovil on Saturday and I gather he played further forward last night. He is obviously taking his opportunity in what is an ideal move for him.

"We have sent the likes of Wayne Hennessey, Stephen Gleeson and Lewis Gobern out on loan to good effect in the past. Now it's Elliott's turn and I'm sure he's loving it.

"I would have gone to watch last night had we not had an under-15 friendly against Nottingham Forest but I do plan to watch him later in his stay."

Crewe are now unbeaten in four matches following their indifferent start to the season and were up last night against a Vale side who had the on-loan Keith Lowe and former Molineux trainee Shane Tudor on the bench.

Elliott, previously unused as a substitute against Keith Downing's Cheltenham, made his senior debut for Wolves this season when starting in the Carling Cup victory at home to Bradford City in August.

He also figured in the tie against Morecambe in the next round, having first been seen at first-team level in the friendly at Swansea just before Mick McCarthy's arrival at Molineux as manager.

He was given a three-year pro contract by the club earlier in 2007.
