Short Lived Celebrations

Posted on: Mon 17 Sep 2007

Stephen Elliott should have been celebrating his first goal of the season, but instead he is ruing the mistakes that cost Wolves dear at the weekend.

However, the former Sunderland striker is adamant that his side didn't deserve to lose 3-1.

"Yes I managed to score but we lost the game so no one is going to be happy," he said.

"A couple of silly mistakes at the back cost us and we definitely didn't deserve to lose the game, and 3-1 makes it look like we got a bit of a battering - which wasn't the case.

"At least we've got another game tomorrow and have got to pick ourselves up.

"When you come to a place like Bramall Lane know they are going to be up for it right from the start and for the first 20 minutes they were on top of us a bit.

"But we dealt with it well, they didn't score, and once we got our goal I think we settled a lot more and played a lot more football.

"Maybe they could have had a couple of goals as well, it was an open game, but to lose it 3-1 was gutting.

"There's no point worrying about ifs and buts and crying about it because there's another game coming around quickly which is a good thing.

"The Championship is always very open when any team can take points off any other. We certainly believe we can do something and that's not going to go away because we lost at Sheffield.

"It was nice for me to play, Freddy's done brilliant since he came in but he's played a lot of games and the gaffer decided to rest him. I was delighted to play but obviously now devastated with the result.

"We've just got to try and take six points from these next two home games now."
