Stephen Upbeat Despite Defeat

Posted on: Tue 07 Aug 2007

Stephen Elliott was upbeat about the Wolves' performance on Saturday despite losing to Reading.

The striker, who was making his home debut, is also optimistic about the partnership he is forging up front with Andy Keogh.

He said: "I thought for the first half an hour we were outstanding. We played some really great football and could have had five or six goals and I was guilty of missing a few chances.

"But we ended up 3-1 down at half time, I don't know how, but it shows we've got to make sure we kill teams off by taking our chances. Hopefully that will come next week.

"The keeper did well to make those saves but on another day I could have had a hat trick in ten minutes.

"Now I've just got to put that out of my head and hopefully get one next week.

"Myself and Andy seem to play well together, at the moment it just seems like we both know where the other one is.

"Hopefully we can keep that going and get some goals between us when the season kicks off.

"There's a lot of competition for places up front so when you play you have to make sure you do well.

"Over the last couple of seasons it's been stop-start for me when I've picked up little knocks but this pre-season has gone alright.

"I've played a few games and can feel myself getting a lot sharper for it.I can't wait now for the Watford game."
