Narrow Defeat
Wolves 2 (Olofinjana 14, Bothroyd 84)
Reading 3 (Hunt 17, Gunnarsson 32, Kitson 44)
Premiership Reading came from behind to inflict a narrow defeat on Wolves' in the final friendly of the pre-season for Mick McCarthy's team.
The home side kicked-off attacking the South Bank end against a Royals team that included former Molineux men Ivar Ingimarsson and Seol.
In the opening minutes Wolves were camped in the Reading half, although visiting keeper Marcus Hahnemann didn't have any direct shots to deal with.
The American was a busy man, however, and after cutting out a low cross from Stephen Ward he had to race yards from his area needing two attempts before he cleared from Stephen Elliott.
In the 14th minute Wolves moved ahead when Seyi Olofinjana rose to power a header home following a precision right-wing cross from Gary Breen.
But it took Reading just three minutes to pull level after a mix up between Neill Collins and Wayne Hennessey allowed Stephen Hunt the easiest of tasks of slotting into an empty net.
Wolves bounced back and Elliott was denied by Hahnemann who blocked when the striker chased Stephen Ward's through ball into the box. The rebound fell to Michael Kightly whose 25-yard chip was diverted behind by Hahnemann.
Elliott looked on for an equaliser with a close range header from Andy Keogh's centre but Hahnemann somehow managed to block with Ingimarsson clearing the loose ball.
Completely against the run of play Reading took a 32nd minute lead when Bryn Gunnarsson ran onto James Harper's through ball and slotted past Hennessey.
Three minutes later Dave Kitson almost made it three with a glancing header that bounced off the top of the bar following a cornier from Hunt.
But then Elliott was inches away from giving Wolves the leveller they deserved when, at full stretch, he hooked wide of the far post after low cross from Keogh.
Hahnemann produced more heroics for the visitors when, after a Kightly corner, he blocked Collins' close range header and then claimed Olofinjana's follow up.
Seconds before the interval Wolves were dealt a blow when Hunt's shot, which was covered by Hennessey, struck Kitson leaving the keeper with no chance and giving the score line a totally flattering look for the visitors.
Half-Time: Wolves 1 Reading 3
Hennessey made a fine save to stop a fourth Reading goal shortly after the restart. Royals substitute Kevin Doyle looked a certain scorer but Hennessey made a superb reaction save from close quarters.
Then Darren Ward got in a timely tackle when Shane Long had broken through and looked odds on to stretch Reading's advantage.
The flowing play of the first-half had become decidedly disjointed as both sides made a plethora of substitutions.
Fifteen minutes from the end, Reading hit the woodwork for a second time when Simon Cox's angled shot bounced of the post and then behind off Hennessey.
The corner was cleared upfield to Freddy Eastwood who cut into the right of the Reading area before unleashing a low shot that was smothered by Adam Federici.
The substitute keeper was in action again seconds later when he saved from Kightly at the near post at the expense of a corner. Kightly took the kick himself and when the ball fell in the area, Rob Edwards fired at goal but his effort was too close to Federici who saved comfortably.
Hennessey saved with his feet from Doyle before, with six minutes left, Jay Bothroyd cut the deficit when he held off a challenge before hitting a low shot into the net.
He then appeared to make a gesture towards the Wolves bench and was immediately substituted by Mick McCarthy.
In stoppage time there was a chance for Kightly to grab an equaliser when he broke clear but Federici spread himself to save.
