Wolves and Brighton fought out a goalless draw in driving rain at Compton Park.

The south coast side fielded their full first team squad whilst Wolves included new signing Stephen Elliott along with three of the club's young professionals. Michael Gray who signed for Wolves on Wednesday, was named as a substitute.

In the first minute Jody Craddock headed over the bar and then Elliott Bennett delivered a dangerous centre across the face of the visitors goal with no-one able to take advantage.

Craddock was in the thick of things once more when he dragged a shot wide after a Daniel Jones corner had only been half cleared.

Then Bennett ran on to a nod down from Jones and hit a terrific rising drive that Brighton keeper Danny Gray turned over with the help of the crossbar.

Brighton nearly made the breakthrough when Tom Fraser headed inches over after a centre from Jamie Mullen, and Jay Bothroyd, with a nifty piece of footwork, carved out an opening for himself but his shot was just wide of the far post.

Half-Time: Wolves 0 Brighton 0

The visitors had the better of the chances at the start of the new half. Joe Gatting's low shot looked destined for the corner of the net but Wayne Hennessey made a fine save as he dived low and clung onto the ball on the sodden surface.

The Welsh international showed his skills again in the 54th minute when Mullen broke clear on the left and raced into the area. He tried to chip the keeper who managed to get a hand to the ball and push it behind for a corner.

Then, it was Mullen again, this time with a 25-yard drive that curled wide of the angle.

Jemal Johnson, on as a half-time replacement for Bothroyd, had to replaced himself when he was carried off after suffering a hamstring injury.

Joe Gatting, looking well offside, was allowed to continue but Hennessey came to the rescue once more with a tremendous block from the striker who was clean through.

Three minutes from the end Craddock powered a header just over the bar following a Jamie Clapham corner.
