Wolves took an invaluable point from their trip to Aston Villa and it could have been all three as they came from behind with Jody Craddock and an own goal from James Milner cancelling out John Carew's opener. Carew, however, struck again eight minutes from time to give his side a share of the spoils.
The Molineux side, once again unchanged, kicked-off attacking the Holte End but it was Villa that enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges and Carew was close with a shot on the turn that was narrowly wide of the far post and just in front of Stephen Warnock.
A dangerous cross from Stewart Downing was hacked clear by Craddock before the first corner of the game went Wolves way, Adlene Guedioura firing wide from 20-yards after Matt Jarvis had played the flag-kick back to him.
The home support were baying for a penalty after Karl Henry's tackle on Carew, who only had Marcus Hahnemann to beat, but the Wolves' skipper's challenge was perfectly timed.
Villa took the lead with 16 minutes gone as Carew nonchalantly turned home Ashley Young's low cross to leave Hahnemann with no chance.
Henry was high and wide with a a long-range effort and a Jarvis cross-shot was deflected behind for an unproductive corner as Wolves looked to hit back.
And, midway through the half, an equaliser did arrive after Stiliyan Petrov had fouled Kevin Doyle inside the Villa half. The Bulgarian was booked before Dave Jones lifted the free-kick into the area where Ronald Zubar got a touch with the ball falling invitingly in front of Craddock who netted with a left-foot drive.
Doyle was too high with an overhead kick after Jones had helped on Kevin Foley's centre.
But there was more success for Mick McCarthy's men in the 38th minute as they took the lead courtesy of a Milner own goal.Doyle found Jones who ran into the home area before laying the ball off to Jarvis whose low cross was turned into the net by Milner in front of a stunned Holte End.
Downing bounced a header over the bar following a cross from Young, and then Guediuora went into the book for a late challenge on Petrov.
In stoppage time Carlos Cuellar drove over the bar from the edge of the area.

George Elokobi was an interval replacement for Guedioura and he slotted in at left-back with Stephen Ward pushing up into the left of midfield.
Foley won a corner off James Collins shortly after the restart. Jarvis's kick was cleared and when Villa won a corner of their own in the 51st minute, Young lifted the ball across and Richard Dunne powered a header into the side netting.
Jarvis was penalised for a challenge on Young just to the left of the Wolves' area. The Villa man took the free-kick himself but his curling effort landed on the roof of the net.
The home side were piling on the pressure and Hahnemann was well positioned to take a Carew header after Milner had supplied the centre.
Michael Mancienne was a 64th minute replacement for Wolves who had a brief moment's respite from the pressure when Doyle sprinted down the left and cut inside, but Brad Friedel cut out his low cross.
Yet another cross from Young resulted in a scramble in front of Hahnemann's goal. Emile Heskey got a touch but Henry managed to clear from a congested six-yard box.
Villa sent on Marc Albrighton for Dunne and, after Zubar had been shown the yellow card for tripping Young, and Jarvis had curled a shot into Friedel's midriff, they replaced Downing with Steve Sidwell.
Carew headed a Young cross over the bar but he scored his second goal of the game in the 82nd minute to level matters.
He headed a long clearance from defence on to Heskey who teed the ball up for Sidwell. His shot looked to be heading for the net anyway but Carew, looking suspiciously offside, got the final touch.
The Wolves players didn't let their heads drop and there was a chance of a late winner when Warnock's header looked to be falling short of Friedel but the keeper just beat Doyle to the ball.
