Wolves 0
Plymouth Argyle 1 (Gallagher 1)
Wolves' miserable run goes on after Plymouth's Paul Gallagher gave the struggling south coast team the three points thanks to a first minute goal. The only solace for Mick McCarthy's men was that promotion rivals Reading also slipped up at home.
Kyel Reid started on the left as a replacement for the unfit Matt Jarvis as the only change to the home starting line-up.
Plymouth kicked-off attacking the North Bank end and they moved into the lead after just 38 seconds. Chris Barker's long throw-in was allowed to bounce in the box and Christophe Berra's header only went as far as Jamie Mackie who nodded the ball forwards to Gallagher who netted with an overhead kick.
It was in the fifth minute that Wolves had their first goal attempt but Dave Edwards' drive went straight to Argyle keeper Romain Larrieu.
Reid let fly from 30-yards but his effort was well wide. Then, when he took the Wolves' first corner, the ball was cleared upfield and from the halfway line Plymouth suddenly found themselves in a two on one situation.
Mackie sprinted down the right but his cross to Gallagher was plucked out of the air by Wayne Hennessey with Kevin Foley the only man back.
In the 19th minute Michael Kightly took a short pass from Foley and delivered a low centre that was just too far in front of Andy Keogh's outstretched foot.
Wolves were pushing hard and a flowing move involving Edwards, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Kightly opened up a chance for Reid but his low shot from the edge of the area went straight to Larrieu.
Plymouth almost scored a second in the 29th minute after another Barker long throw was headed out to Carl Fletcher whose first-time volley flashed inches wide of the post.
The referee gave a free-kick to Argyle deep inside the home area after Hennessey picked up Berra's back pass. The official then changed his mind indicating that the ball had hit the Scottish defender above the knee.
It took the combined efforts of Karl Henry and Hennessey to scramble the ball away from Ashley Barnes who had closed down a through ball.
Half-Time: Wolves 0 Plymouth 1
Within a minute of the resumption a header from Edwards drifted wide of the far post following a cross from Foley, and then the midfielder hit the bar with a 20-yard volley but the referee had already blown after spotting an infringement.
Kightly stumbled into the area after he was challenged by Barker just as he was about to shoot but penalty appeals were ignored.
Whether or not it should have been a spot kick is debateable but just two minutes later Reid was clearly shoved in the back by Mackie for what looked a stonewall penalty. But again appeals were ignored.
Then, on the hour mark - just after Chris Iwelumo had replaced Reid - Barker clipped Edwards' heel but referee Carl Boyeson again waved away penalty claims.
After absorbing some heavy pressure, Plymouth went close through Gallagher who hit an angled drive not far wide of the far post.
Henry was shown the yellow card after a late challenge on Fletcher and then, as Wolves continued to push forward, Kightly fired over bar from 18-yards.
In the 74th minute Ebanks-Blake had a great chance of scoring against his old club when he powered into the box onto a short through ball from Edwards. But the leading scorer shot over with just the keeper to beat.
With time starting to run out Henry wasn't far off with a low drive and when substitute Sam Vokes did find the net, Iwelumo was penalised for barging into Larrieu.
In stoppage time, the French keeper just managed to touch Foley's cross away from George Friend - a late replacement for Stephen Ward, before there was a tremendous scramble in the Argyle area.
Iwelumo nodded Foley's cross down to Ebanks-Blake who had two shots in quick succession blocked. The loose ball ran to Jody Craddock and his low effort bounced off a defender to Berra. But he too was thwarted by a Plymouth body which was hardly surprising as the visitors had pulled everyone back into the area.
