Hall Of Fame Launched For 2010
Wolves are today launching the search for the next batch of legends to enter the club's Hall of Fame in 2010.
The club are asking fans to make nominations for another group of inductees with a minimum of a further six joining to the initial six who were honoured at the hugely successful inaugural Hall of Fame dinner in January of this year.
The induction will take place along similar lines as last year, with fans being invited to e-mail their nominations to halloffame@wolves.co.uk.
A selection committee will then meet to discuss the nominations and make the final judgements.
Already in the Hall of Fame after last year's inaugural awards are six Molineux greats - Jackery Jones, Stan Cullis, Billy Wright, Ron Flowers, Derek Parkin and Steve Bull.
And now we are looking for at least six more.
This selection committee will consist of two Club executives, two Fans Parliament members, two Former Players' Association representatives and two members of the Press/ Media, and will be supported by the Club's historians.
After the success of the split in generations of last year which enjoyed positive feedback from fans of all ages, Wolves' history is again going to be split into five defined periods for the judging process: (1) 1877 to 1915 (2) 1919 to 1945 (3) 1946 to 1960 (4) 1961 to 1990 (5) 1991 to present day.
There will be at least one new inductee from each of the time periods above with the exception of the period between 1946 and 1960 when at least two greats will be selected, recognising Wolves' outstanding achievements during this time.
The Wolves' Hall of Fame will be open to former players, managers and backroom staff or any other former Wolves representatives who have made a special and lasting contribution to the Club.
Legends will be selected on the basis of those individuals who have left a lasting and special impact on Wolverhampton Wanderers. This can be evidenced in a number of ways such as: service to the Club, number of games played, exceptional playing ability and/or playing achievement. The panel will also consider players who have gained notable International recognition.
Consideration can also be given to individuals who have made significant off the pitch contributions to Wolves - it will not be confined to former players only.
Current Wolves players will NOT be eligible for the Wolves' Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame was set up as a result of owner Steve Morgan's desire to direct more attention to better honouring the club's history for both current and future generations of supporters.
It is hoped that the Hall of Fame will one day have a prominent and permanent home in a club museum which is set to be built as part of any future redevelopment of Molineux.
So please feel free to get those thinking caps on and e-mail in suggestions for the next legends to join the six already inducted into the Wolves Hall of Fame.
Send any names to be put forward for consideration to halloffame@wolves.co.uk before 9am on Tuesday, July 14.
After the selection panel meets, the names will then be revealed on a gradual basis prior to another special dinner to celebrate the latest list of Wolves legends.
The Club meanwhile reserves the right to change or amend any of the Hall of Fame criteria at any time and have the ultimate final say on any person to be inducted.
