Another trip down Memory Lane looking back on news and events connected with Wolves from back down the years.

FEBRUARY 6, 1924

The birthdate of a footballing legend not only for Wolves but England and the game as a whole.

William, Ambrose Wright was born in Ironbridge in Shropshire.

Not only did Billy Wright lead Wolves to three League Championships and an FA Cup success, he was the first man in world football to win 100 caps for his country.

His final tally of England caps was 105, an incredible 90 of which came as captain.

FEBRUARY 7, 1987

Still viewed by many Wolves fans as a major turning point as the dark days of the plummet to the Fourth Division and near-extinction, Wolves beat Stockport 3-1 at Molineux.

It may not seem a particularly newsworthy fixture, but Wolves were 1-0 down with 12 minutes remaining.

Then an Andy Thompson penalty levelled the scores, and late goals from Micky Holmes and Steve Bull paved the way for an end-of-season revival which was then followed up with promotion the following season.

FEBRUARY 8, 1995

Arguably the most dramatic penalty shootout ever seen at Molineux.

Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday had finished the replay 1-1 after extra time, having shared a goalless draw in the initial FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Hillsborough thanks to Paul Jones' late penalty save from Chris Bart-Williams.

Wolves were 3-0 behind in the penalty shootout, needing every subsequent spot kick to go their way.

But that they did, with Jones again the hero, leaving Don Goodman to fire home the decisive kick to take Wolves through to the last 16.

FEBRUARY 9, 1927

After a hat trick against Clapton Orient four days previously, Tom Philippson scored in a 2-2 draw at Notts County.

It was the 13th successive league match in which Phillipson had found the net, a Football League record which still stands to this day.

Wolves' other scorer at Meadow Lane was right back Ted Watson.

FEBRUARY 10, 2010

A chilly night at Molineux, but the Wolves fans were warmed up by an excellent 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

Just as excellent as the win was the manner of the decisive goal, David Jones finishing off an 18-pass move with the 27th minute strike.

The victory saw Wolves complete an unlikely double over Spurs after Kevin Doyle's winner the previous December, and move out of the relegation zone.

FEBRUARY 11, 1939

Molineux's record attendance was set as Wolves welcomed Liverpool in a fifth round FA Cup tie.

No fewer than 61, 315 turned up to see Wolves run out 4-1 winners.

Stan Burton, Alex McIntosh, Dennis Westcott and Dickie Dorsett were the Wolves men on target with a Willie Fagan penalty Liverpool's only reply.

FEBRUARY 12, 1980

Wolves clinched a second League Cup final appearance at Wembley in six years thanks to a semi final second leg win over Swindon at Molineux.

Trailing 2-1 from the away leg, goals from John Richards and Mel Eves saw Wolves move in front.

Swindon then struck to level matters on aggregate at 3-3 before Richards struck his second of the night to help Wolves into a Wembley final in which they beat Nottingham Forest 1-0.
