Wolves Chairman Steve Morgan was the first to step out onto a new state-of-the-art football pitch in Bilston this week when he helped to launch City of Wolverhampton College's £1.09 million football development centre.

The new facility, based at the college's Wellington Road Campus, includes a floodlit 3rd generation artificial grass surface,which is the closest surface to actually playing on grass, four external changing rooms, facilities for officials and a grass training pitch for mini soccer games.

The facility was made possible with the help of a £620,279 grant from the Football Foundation, the UK's biggest sports charity.

The college's partnership with Wolves was instrumental in gaining this grant, with their Girls Centre of Excellence and Wolves Women team already based there, and more social inclusion projects hoped to be developed there now that the project is complete.

General Manager for Wolves Community Trust Will Clowes said: "The new astro-turf pitch is a fantastic addition to the sport facilities at the college. Wolves Community Trust is proud to have played a small but hopefully significant part in its development. We look forward to making use of the facilities in the future, providing activities and initiatives, in partnership with the college, for the benefit of our local community."
